In 1964, Jacques Heim produced a two-piece swimsuit and advertised to Mediterranean resorts us a "World Smallest Bathing Suit". Heim called it "Atome". The base of Heim's swimsuit was just large enough to protect the person's navel(colloquially known as the belly button, or tummy button)

When a French automobile engineer and clocthing designer, Louis Reard, noticed women rolling up the edge of his swimsuit to get a better tan. He quickly produces his own swimsuit design. His swimsuit was a string bikini compose of 4 triangles made only from 30 square inches of cloth with newspaper design. He names the swimsuit after a site for testing the atomic bomb, the Bikini Atoll.

When he will advertise the swimsuit, none of the unusual models want to wear it, so he hired a nude dancer, Micheline Bernardini. Not to beat the Atome of Heim, he advertises his design with "Smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world".
